چکیده

Background: noninvasive esophageal parameters may prevent the need for an esophagogastroduodenoscopy. Liver cirrhosis patients benefit from PC/SD ratio and platelet count to spleen diameter (PC/SD) ratio, both of which are yet useful indicators liver progression. Objective: This study aimed evaluate diagnostic accuracy index diagnosis gastric varices in with cirrhosis, using esophagogastroduodenoscopy as reference standard. Methodology: A-Cross-sectional descriptive validation The was conducted over course three months, October, 2019 December 2019. At Gastroenterology A tertiary care hospital. comprised 90 participants. In addition requisite blood tests, abdominal ultrasonography used size spleen. TYPE SIZE sensitivity is 83%, specificity 66%, 83% Variations were found 24% cirrhotic individuals. Cirrhosis defined accordance operational definition. Patients' samples collected at hospital laboratory a complete count, ultrasound performed Radiology department, upper GI endoscopy endoscopic suite screeningpurposes. Results: With reverence ages study's varied 55.0 89.8. Ninety (44.7%) women, while remaining 48 (55.3%) males. Hepatitis C most common (almost 50%), followed by hepatitis B, cryptogenic Wilson's disease. B accounted cases. (1.2% total). There distinct severity levels varices. 12 (14.2%), 23 (27.7%), 32 (37.7%), 38 varies (21.8%). Out total 90, 69.5% determined be Child's Pugh stage A, 24.9% 4.7% grade C. two-by-two table, we calculated likelihood (sensitivity plus positive negative predictive values) gastro varices, it came out 78%. ROC curve also generated. stratified according their age, gender, cause condition. Practical implications: will provide data health workers use non-invasive technique lower procedure costs associated complications detect Esophageal cirrhotics Conclusion: It possible that amount unnecessary esophagogastroduodenoscopies reduced if method diagnosing gastroesophageal widely used. keywords: varies, Cirrhosis, Platelet index, Non invasive method,

Liver stiffness-spleen size-to-platelet ratio risk score detects esophageal varices in chronic liver disease

BACKGROUND Noninvasive markers are needed to identify esophageal varices (EV) in patients with chronic liver disease (CLD). Recently, liver stiffness (LS)-spleen size-to-platelet ratio risk score (LSPS) has been shown to predict EV in patients with chronic hepatitis C. The aim of this study was to validate the clinical value of LSPS for EV detection and identification of high risk EV in Japanes...

Platelet count/spleen diameter ratio as a predictor of esophageal varices in cirrhotic patients.

This letter regards the very interesting paper published in Annals of Hepatology 2009; 8(4): 325-30 by Barrera, et al.1 The authors emphasize an important matter, which is the burden of frequently endoscopying cirrhotic patients in order to verifying for the presence of esophageal varices (EV) and indicating the proper prophylaxis to avoid bleeding. They evaluate the platelet count/spleen diame...

Can platelet count/spleen diameter ratio be used for cirrhotic children to predict esophageal varices?

AIM To determine the laboratory and radiologic parameters, including the platelet count (PC)-to-spleen diameter (SD) ratio as a non-invasive marker that may predict the presence of esophageal varices (EV) in children with cirrhosis. METHODS Eighty-nine patients with cirrhosis, but without a history of variceal bleeding were prospectively included. The children were grouped into 6-12 and 12-18...

Platelet Count Squared/spleen Diameter-aspartate Aminotransferase Ratio: Non-invasive Method to Predict Esophageal Varices.

BACKGROUND - Variceal bleeding has a high mortality among cirrhotics, and screening with endoscopy is indicated at the diagnosis of cirrhosis. Screening with endoscopy implies discomfort, risks and considerable costs. OBJECTIVE - To evaluate platelet count squared/spleen diameter-aspartate aminotransferase ratio (PS/SA), as a non-invasive predictor of esophageal varices in cirrhotics. METHO...
